Climate Reflections and Recent Cycling Trips

The Carr Fire near Redding, CA, August1, 2018.

The Carr Fire near Redding, CA, August1, 2018.

The Adventure Cycling Association (ACA) Sierra Cascades Bicycle Route follows the Cascade Range onto the Sierra Nevada from the US/Canada border at Sumas, WA south to the US/Mexico border at Tecate, CA, paralleling the Pacific Coast National Scenic Trail (PCT). I will be joining the route from Portland, OR and riding it approximately to Truckee, CA where I will make my way across the Sacramento Valley to the San Francisco Bay Area. Wiildfires, drought and extreme heat may force me to abandon or change my route along the way. Communities in Northern California are facing the Carr Fire near Redding CA, as well as 17 other fires around the state. And the worst part of the wildfire season is still about a month away. Yet, there is always beauty and peace to be found in the glorious American West. I hope you will enjoy the posts to come.

Below are some posts from recent trips and reflections on how climate change is impacting the lives of ordinary Americans. Posts from all previous carbonstories.org trips are available in the drop down menu (three horizontal lines) on the left-hand side of this page.
